The Bellagio

Summary

The Bellagio is one of Las Vegas’s most iconic luxury hotel-casino resorts, situated on the Strip and famous for its choreographed fountain show on the artificial lake out front. The party was quartered in top-floor suites during their 48-hour pass, making it the hub of their off-duty activities. What began as a stint of gambling and relaxation turned sinister when a Terran Insectoid crawled through an improperly sealed portal in one of the suites and killed a civilian cleaning lady.

Description

The Bellagio occupies a sprawling complex on the Las Vegas Strip, its facade facing an enormous artificial lake whose surface serves as the stage for the resort’s signature fountain display. The interior moves between the vast, high-ceilinged casino floor — packed with table games, slot machines, and a constant low roar of ambient noise — and the more refined spaces of the hotel proper: high-end restaurants, the Conservatory botanical garden, and the gallery of fine art. The upper floors house the premium suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking either the Strip or the fountain lake below. It was on one of these floors that the portal incident occurred, in a room that appeared externally identical to every other suite on the level.
